PROFILE

My name is Jing Gao, and I am a Communication Design student at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. I focus on developing communication strategies that combine visual systems and storytelling to connect people and ideas across cultures. I strive to design with clarity, empathy, and intention—creating meaningful experiences that bridge design thinking with everyday life. Outside of design, I enjoy fishing, hiking, and photographing tranquil natural scenes that often inspire my creative perspective.

Decrisption

This project was about creating a website for Val Head, who is a big name in motion design for UI/UX. My goal was to make something that showed both her professional side and her personality. The website has clear sections—an introduction, her life, work experience, and books—so it feels organized but not too stiff. When I first started, I thought it would be simple, just putting together images and text. But the more I worked on it, the more I realized how tricky it was to keep everything balanced. Some drafts felt too crowded, others felt too empty. I kept going back, changing layouts, and trying new versions. Along the way, I looked at other designers’ work, borrowed ideas that worked well, and then added my own adjustments. In the end, I’m happy with this version because it feels clean and easy to use, but also has a sense of energy. The process taught me a lot about finding balance, revising again and again, and trusting my design decisions
